Join us in the Schaefer Ballroom for a remarkable show!

This year’s Spring Dance Concert is anchored by three exciting works by guest choreographers, each chosen to challenge the students with different techniques.

The ballet-based work Jazzin was created by Darrell Grand Moultrie to embody classic Duke Ellington tunes performed by the Count Basie Orchestra. Our students will perform two movements from this energetic work, set on them by Dance Department Head Laura Halm.

Inspired by the poem “Miedo” by Chilean poet Gabriela Mistral, Stephanie Martinez’s contemporary work Destino Roto explores women who inspire and defy the odds, focusing upon the Latino cultural influences that her family brings to her life.

BSA alumnus Class of 2005 Jimmie Manners’ work BSA, A Love Story, is a classic young love narrative explored through the medium of hip hop, created upon and showcasing our multifaceted students.

To round out the program, the Dance Department proudly features work by its own budding senior choreographers. Their works grant us a unique glimpse into our young dancer/artists’ interests and influences, and gives us inspiring insight into the future of dance choreography.
