Thanks for your interest in auditioning for the Baltimore School for the Arts!
Admission is based solely on an audition and an interview. Current 8th and 9th grade students may audition in one or two art areas: Dance, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Film and Visual Storytelling, Theatre, Stage Design and Production, and Visual Arts.
Here’s how it works:
First, every fall we have an Open House. Come if you can! We’ll walk you through the process and answer any questions you may have. This year’s has passed, but that’s OK, because attending Open House is not required.
Second, complete an application form to request an audition. The application deadline is usually late November, and auditions are held every January for the following school year.
Third, audition appointment letters will be mailed by winter break for January’s auditions.
Audition requirements can change at any time, but there is usually a great deal of similarity from year to year. Below are the audition instructions for the 2018-19 school year.
We’re part of the Baltimore City Public School System, so we are free of charge to attend for Baltimore City residents. Non-city residents who attend BSA must pay tuition. Tuition is set by the Baltimore City Board of Education and is subject to change. For the 2017-18 school year, it was $7,486.50 per year.
