Board of Overseers
The Baltimore School for the Arts was established in 1979 as part of the Baltimore
City Public School System. A charter in the form of a School Board Resolution
provided for an independent Board of Overseers to have broad supervisory authority
to take all necessary actions for developing and running a pre-professional art
school.
The Baltimore School for the Arts charter granted the Board of Overseers independent
authority and responsibility for the school. The charter also authorized the
establishment of a 501 ( c ) 3 to raise funds to supplement city funding.
Together the Board of Overseers and the Baltimore School for the Arts Foundation
preserve the integrity of the charter and the fulfillment of the school's mission.
