The Technical Director is responsible for teaching set construction and basic rigging, teaching an introduction to theater organization and practice, teaching a theater history class, assisting with the maintenance of the performance spaces, and supervising set construction and installation for two plays and various other productions of the Theater and Dance Departments.  This person assists the Production Manager in implementing the instructional and performance programs in the school and will also supervise some performances outside of the hours of the regular school day.

The Baltimore School for the Arts, located in the historic Mt. Vernon district of Baltimore, is a public arts high school that offers pre-professional training in vocal and instrumental music, dance, theater (acting and design), and the visual arts in combination with a rigorous college-preparatory academic program to 400 students in grades nine through twelve.  Students are selected through competitive auditions and study with a faculty of professional artists who live and work in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. area. 98% of the School’s graduates are accepted into the nation’s leading colleges, conservatories, and universities.

This is a part-time contractual position (25 hours per week) with a competitive pay rate.  The Technical Director teaches 16 hours per week and has 9 hours per week of flex time to be used on rehearsals and performances.  The position is ideal for a theater artist who values some flexibility in work schedule and who enjoys interacting with young artists.  Interviews for this position will commence immediately.
