ALUMNI NEWS: Fall 2009 through Spring 2010
CLASS OF ‘82
- Audrey Jakab teaches art at Community Partnership School in North Philadelphia.
- Lincoln Tracy is a project manager for large scale island restoration and dredging projects on the Chesapeake Bay.
- Susan Rome is focusing more on directing, and expanding the performing arts program at Baltimore Lab School, where she has been teaching for 8 years. She has been chosen to attend The Learning, Arts and the Brain Conference in Sicily, Italy. She will be the theatre/improv teacher for an international Jewish youth arts festival.
CLASS OF ‘83
- Lisl (Voigt) Armstrong currently lives in Florida after having lived in the Caribbean for fifteen years. She is a professional beachcomber and creates sea glass jewelry.
- Kristine (Ireland) Compton is senior account manager for The South magazine in Savannah, Georgia.
- Marjorie Johnson writes, composes, and records music in LA.
- Keith Thomas choreographed the 75th Anniversary Tour for Porgy and Bess and is the assistant choreographer for Sophisticated Ladies and understudy for Maurice Hines.
CLASS OF ‘84
- Katonya Ayers aka Kat Ayerz travels between Tokyo and Los Angeles performing as a singer, actress, and dancer.
- Lisa Buda aka Aldona Sellers lives in Hong Kong and has two daughters.
- Marque Cornblatt exhibited a 25 year retrospective of his artwork for an exhibition in the lobby of the new Legg Mason Building.
- Lyn O’Conor-Ferguson is a singer/songwriter and plays acoustic music in the Boston area with her husband and their band. She’s just completed her master’s in counseling and psychology and is working as a mental health counselor.
CLASS OF ‘85
- Jennifer Argenti was nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year for the Los Angeles Music Awards.
- Tonya (O’Dell) DeDera and her husband have an art and entertainment business in Las Vegas.
- Mellasenah Morris Edwards teaches at Peabody and at BSA. She is the program assistant for the TWIGS program. In addition she is a substitute with Baltimore Symphony and a member of Ensemble Argos.
- William Rhodes had a show called NUVOODOO at Westnorth Studio Gallery in Baltimore.
- Nick Wheeler danced in Washington Opera’s Falstaff. He is also a faculty member at BSA.
- Charlotte (Bynum) Waters resides in Columbia, Maryland with her husband of 9 years. She is currently finishing her Masters of Science in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins Carey School of Business and has been working in the shopping center industry for the past 22 years.
CLASS OF ‘86
- Kim McCord Golliday is director /owner of Taneytown Dance Center. She lives with her husband and two boys in Taneytown, MD.
- Antonio Hart recently conducted the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band at the Kennedy Center. Other artists involved were Dee Dee Bridgewater, Al Jarreau and Janice Siegel of the Manhattan Transfer.
CLASS OF ‘87
- Alonzo Cox writes poetry and short stories along with his job as a mental health counselor for UPMC. He has six daughters.
- Melanie Davis Hood is an elementary school counselor just outside of Charlottesville, VA, where she lives with her husband and two-year-old daughter.
CLASS OF ‘88
- Robin Branch teaches and choreographs for the Los Angeles Unified School.
- Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell represented the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in the 2009 Chicago Dancing Festival. The event included performances by ABT, Houston Ballet, Step Afrika, Lar Lubovich Dance Company, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Le Ballet Grandiva. She performed Alvin Aileys Cry in its entirety.
- Maureen Myers is a nurse in Winston Salem, NC at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital. She has two children.
- Alvin Pettit recently completed a large foam sculpture of Michael Jackson for an amusement park in New Hampshire.
CLASS OF ‘89
- Mia Brownell has several paintings in Hi-Fructose magazine. Her paintings are on exhibit in London and Prague. She was selected as a juror for a show at the Milford Fine Arts Council.
- Tracey Downs just received a masters degree in Social Work at the California State University Northridge. She also works at the Motion Picture Association. She is married with two children.
- Cameron Francis acts, writes, and performs magic. He lives in Florida with his wife and daughter.
- Kerri Garbis will be starring in the The Lady with All the Answers, a one-woman play about Ann Landers, at The Little Theatre in the Rockies in Colorado. Kerri also runs a business called Pinnacle Performance Company.
CLASS OF ‘90
- Rachel DiNenna is starring in an Indie film called American Country filming this summer.
- Askia Swift, after dancing for many years with the San Francisco Ballet, lives in Zurich, Switzerland where he runs a physical therapy/fitness center.
- Jesse Terrill is a professional stage composer for Washington DC area theatres and company member of Forum Theatre Company.
- Jaquetta (Plater) Tinson is married with four children and is a surgical technician at Maryland Shock Trauma.
CLASS OF ‘91
- Nils Fredland lives with his wife and young child in Keene, NH. He’s on the road calling contra and square dances, plays trombone with a group called Elixir, and teaches singing workshops.
- Melissa Noonan-Mazzei is director of product development at Tiffany in NYC.
CLASS OF ‘92
- Dontae Winslow will be going on tour with Jill Scott this summer.
CLASS OF ‘93
- Jason Ferrante’s New York City Opera debut in the lead role, King Ouf, in Chabrier's L'Etoile, took place in April. He sang Pong in the Chen Kaige (Farewell my Concubine) production of TURANDOT under the direction of Lorin Maazel to open the brand new opera house in, China.
- DJ Sparr recently has been named the Composer-in-Residence for the Richmond Symphony Orchestra’s Education and Community Engagement Department. He premiered the new Michael Daugherty electric guitar concerto with the Alabama Symphony, and will be the soloist for the European premiere of the piece in Parma, Italy. He was the winner of the 2009 League of Composers/ISCM Competition, and the League of Composers Orchestra. DJ was also on faculty at the Walden School for musicians.
- Tracie Thoms is featured in Chris Rock’s documentary Good Hair.
- Lyn Wactor is performing in a work called The Engagement Project, RFK: the Journey to Justice for LA Theatre Works.
CLASS OF ‘94
- Sara VanDerBeek was one of six photographic artists in the Museum of Modern Art exhibit The New Photography 2009 in Manhattan. The December 6th issue of the NYTimes Style magazine listed her as one of the Nifty 50–names of America’s up-and-coming. April 2nd’s NYTimes mentioned Sara’s work in the Guggenheim show called Haunted:Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance .It will be shown through Sept 6th, 2010.
- Jill Vasbinder has moved back to Maryland and is teaching at UMBC and CCBC.
CLASS OF ‘95
- Sarah Bluth, after working at BSA as TWIGS program assistant and music teacher, is off to Thailand for the Peace Corps.
- Colin Page was featured in American Art Collector magazine, November 2009 and Maine Home +Design, April 1010. L.L Bean used his painting for their spring catalogue cover. He has paintings in galleries in Maine, Massachusetts, and Wisconsin this summer.
- Bryan West is currently performing in the hit musical Wicked on Broadway, after having also performed with Wicked's First National Tour, and Los Angeles companies.
CLASS OF ‘96
- Brian Scott Bagley is choreographing and dancing in Paris.
- Stephen Carr moved to Japan as Associate Professor of Music at Senzoku Gakuen Conservatory in Tokyo where he is directing, performing, and teaching. He was the artistic director for the operetta program at the Interlochen Summer Arts Academy.
- Angela Harris’s Dance Canvas, has just started a partnership with The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center For the Arts, (Tupac's Foundation) to create dance programs for their arts leadership programs.
- Heather-Brooke Malone is dancing for Harford Ballet. She is also a faculty member at Towson and Coppin Universities Children's Dance Departments while pursuing her degree in psychology and a BFA in dance.
- April Hilton-Pegas and Paul Pegas are living in Pasadena where April is caring for their four- year-old son and Paul is production manager for Audio Engineering Associates and mixing music for some jazz clubs.
CLASS OF ‘97
- Kate Fisher performed this fall at the Joyce Theater in Manhattan with choreographer, Lucinda Childs.
- Patricia (Bitzelberger) Pitiger is married with three children and lives in New York.
- Warren Wolf is a percussionist currently touring with Christian McBride and Insight Straight.
CLASS OF ‘98
- Stephanie Chaban aka Stefania Dovhan received rave reviews at the Spoleto Festival USA in the title role of Louise by Gustave Charpentier under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume. She also recently debuted in New York City Opera’s Don Giovani in a leading role, for which she was praised highly.
- David Abdul Hamid lives in NYC and has his own graphic design company, www.goaheadbedifferent.com
- Paige Hernanadez currently is choreographing Knuffle Bunny by Mo Willems at the Kennedy Center. She also has a one woman show, Paige In Full which was accepted into the Mead Theatre Lab program and has been developing it to be shown in May.
- Marianne von Nordeck has moved to Arlington, VA and recently began a new job as Virginia Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee/Organizing for America. Organizing for America is a project of the DNC and is the successor organization to the Obama for America Presidential campaign.
CLASS OF ‘99
- Maxine Butterfield has been painting murals in the Caribbean. She lives in New Orleans.
- Kate Fisher choreographed for a video art movement project called Finite and Infinite Games, a thisiswater production film.
- Alison Frederick’s theatre group BAMA Theatre is performing Midsummer at The Cherry Theatre in NYC.
- Wendy Miller is in graduate school at College of Notre Dame while working as operations manager for Fusco Financial Associates.
- Keyanna Murrill is co-owner of a company in Brooklyn for preschoolers. See www.nycityexplorers.com. She was recently honored by Elijah Cummings.
- Tiffany Parson Jeffers is Assistant Director of Hal Jackson Talented Teen Pageant. She is married with two young children.
CLASS OF ’00
- Cece Disharoon currently lives in Nashville,TN where she is a freelancing sound engineer/ stage manager. Her latest major tour was as the stage manager for Toby Mac and Skillet.
- Amanda Fair won a Baltimore Choice Baker Award for her work as a dancer and poet.
- Kiyon Gaines performed Twyla Tharp’s Opus III at the Joyce in NYC with the Pacific Northwest Ballet. His photo appeared in a New York Post dance review.
- Alexander McCarroll is a set designer in the film industry working on the film The Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds.
- Krissy (Disharoon) Miclean is starting an Orthodox Christian Mission in Annapolis with her husband who is a college chaplain.
- Tyler Zeisloft a.k.a Tyler Daniel has a WXCY morning show named Paula and Tyler in the Morning. WXCY is the # 1 country station in the Wilmington, DE market.
- Johannes VanDerBeek received praise in a NYTimes review June 2st for his second solo show at the Zach Feuer Gallery titled Another Time Man.
- Laura Winelander is dancing with a small modern company, The Roschman Dance Co. She also is a freelance Pilates instructor.
CLASS OF ‘01
- Allison Brooks is marketing and business development director for Boston Architecture Firm. She is also working as freelance publicist for independent film clients nationally and she assisted in the launch of Transcendent Man at the Tribeca Film Festival.
- Hillary Brooks is teaching violin at BSA part time and was recently married.
- Malcolm Majer owns a furniture design business which was featured in March 2010 Baltimore magazine.
CLASS OF ’02
- Breshae Webb is starring in a new sitcom on TVONE produced by Martin Lawrence called Love That Girl.
CLASS OF ‘03
- Hilary Bond had her first solo art show All Kate at COMA gallery in Los Angeles.
- Patrick Cook is working on his doctorate in opera at University of MD.
- Sean Hanratty received his masters in photography from NYC's School of Visual Arts and exhibited his work at a gallery in Rhinebeck, NY. Sean is currently teaching in Shanghai, China.
CLASS OF ‘04
- Reginald Berry is a Marine Corps drill instructor at Parris Island Recruit Training Depot.
- Jonathan Burke has just moved to NYC after finishing a run as Angel in the regional premier of RENT at the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, NY.
- Jonathan Goren is working on his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance at Catholic University.
- Mara Herbkersman recently graduated from Cal Arts and is acting in LA.
- Nathan Paluzzi works at the Banana Factory in Bethlehem, PA as a glass blower and sculptor. He recently graduated from The Tyler School of Arts at Temple University.
- Christian Siriano is the author of Fierce Style: How To Be Your Most Fabulous Self. His designer collection showed at New York’s Fashion Week. Bravo aired a one-hour special on his life, Christian Siriano: Having a Moment.
- Dwayne Washington has been busy with recitals in DC and NYC, a performance series at the Metropolitan Museum, and final callbacks for Ragtime. He graduated from Juilliard in 2008.
CLASS OF ‘05
- Salvatore Amadeo is working on a masters degree in violin.
- Darius Barnes performs with Metropolitan Opera and Suzanne Ferrell Dance Company.
- Ashley Batten recently earned her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and is currently pursuing work in musical theatre, voiceover, television and film. Ashley had her professional debut last summer at Music Theatre of Wichita.
- Madeline Brisedine is graduating from Salisbury University, Magna Cum Laude, in painting, English and film studies. She is showing and selling her art and doing portrait commissions.
- Gilbert Small graduated this year from SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Dance and is joining Ballet British Columbia. He will also perform in a festival with Sidra Bell Dance New York.
CLASS OF ‘06
- Terrone Hill has been selected as part of the Morgan State Choir to perform in Beijing, China this June.
CLASS OF ‘08
- Caitlin Brown is attending University of Cincinnati and is performing in a Chekov One Act called The Bear at Cincinnati Outdoor Classics Theater this summer
- Keith Smith was cast in the lead for NYU's Mainstage play Fuente Ovejuna.
CLASS OF ‘09
- Matt Dykeman received the Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award and his clarinet performance will be aired on NPR’s From the Top broadcast. Matt attends Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
